EN ISO 20345: Apart from a number of basic

requirements, the EN ISO 20345 mark on a product

bears on the additional requirements mentioned

below. If the product meets these additional

requirements, this is indicated by a symbol on the

shoe. Explanation of the symbols:

As from February 2012, all safety footwear will have

to comply with SANS 20345 or its international

equivalent CE 20345. The SANS 20345 specification

replaces four previous locally-developed standards,

SANS 741, 1114, 1167 and 1168. The NRCS (National

Regulator for Compulsory Specifications) which

was previously the regulatory arm of the SABS

will enforce the specifications, and non-compliant

products will be sanctioned in accordance with the

NRCS Act (Act 5 of 2008). This catalogue includes

icons next to each product for either SANS or

CE approved products, which comply with the

prescribed requirements for safety footwear.
